Jesus Knows

Jesus Knows

Speaker: Dennis Gallaher

Series: John

Category: Sunday Morning

Are you tired of carrying a heavy load and controlling everything in your life? If Jesus knows what He intends to do, what will it take for you to allow Him to work in your life? What would it take to relinquish the control you hold on to and let Jesus take control?

Opening Scripture

John 6:1-14   Jesus feeds the five thousand

Jesus feeds well over 5,000 people with only 5 barley loaves of bread and 2 fish. It was the sack lunch of the poor offered to Jesus by the generosity of a little boy. Jesus was healing the sick, teaching, touching and loving the lost.

Then He asks Philip a question in the company of the disciples:
John 6:5  Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?”

Philip was from the area and would know where to find food. There was probably a good amount of food in the crowd already.

So, Philip counts noses and nickels and concludes that Jesus’ request just doesn’t make sense.

Then there is Andrew, who was always bringing people to Jesus.
John 6:9  “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many people?”

In the midst of this story is the key for your life and struggle today:
John 6:6  For He Himself knew what He was intending to do.

Why do we hoard our time, our talents, our compassion, our money, and our energy?
Because we are in charge, not Jesus.

Here is the key..
When you are being asked to give up your stash, if you count noses and nickels, you will never see Jesus sitting there ready to say, “I know what I am going to do and it’s going to be really good in the end.”

Job 42:2  I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.

Jeremiah 32:17  ‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You.

Jeremiah 32:27  “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?”

Luke 1:32  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

Mark 10:27  Looking at them, Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”

Jesus comes to you today with these same words:
“I know what I intend to do.”

We are stuck in the past, wondering how we will move forward, but Jesus knows what He intends to do.

We are carefully controlling our resources, even when they are needed more by others, but Jesus knows what He intends to do.

We are rationalizing that we’ve served our time, given more than most, and we deserve a break, but Jesus knows what He intends to do.

We are concerned about what I will lose if I follow Jesus, always rooted in the past, but Jesus intends to multiply, to give in abundance, to bring the latter rain, to produce a harvest, to bring life out of death, to turn my sorrows to rejoicing.

Why? Because He knows what He intends to do.
