Obedience to Abundance

Obedience to Abundance

Speaker: Amos Dodge

Series: Other

Category: Sunday Morning

There will always be points in our life that while we are going somewhere, we’re not sure where. Obeying God, without knowing where, when, how, or why, will lead to abundance.

Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

1) By Faith, Abraham obeyed when he didn’t know where God was leading him.

Abraham obeyed God before knowing or understanding where God was taking him. There will always be points in our life that while we are going somewhere, we’re not sure how it will end up.

2) By Faith, Abraham obeyed even though he didn’t know when the promise would be fulfilled.

Hebrews 11:10 for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

God's time is not our time. Abraham waited for the city, he waited 25 years to have a son. Why did God take so long when a baby takes 9 months? Could it be that it takes longer to make a father than to make a son?

3) By Faith, Sara trusted when she didn’t know how God would do it.

Hebrews 11:11 By faith, even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised.

Sara waited. We need to beware of limiting God. He can do exceedingly, abundantly more.

Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us . . .

Picture trapeze artists – me as the flyer and Jesus as the catcher. As the flyer, I must trust and let go only to be suspended in the air waiting for the catcher to grab my arms at just the right time.

4) By Faith, Abraham obeyed when he didn’t know why.

Hebrews 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son.

We tend to live by explanations of why, not promises. But we are called to live the opposite.

Summary:

  • When we don’t know when, where, how or why, just obey.
  • Obedience leads to Abundance.
  • With God, nothing is impossible.
  • We need to make faith decisions, not fear decisions.

What is a situation that, by faith, you decided to trust God on where, when, how or why?

What is something that, by faith, you need to take that step of faith and obey when you don’t know where? or when? or how? or why?
