One of God's Delivery Vehicles

One of God's Delivery Vehicles

Speaker: Tyler Ferguson

Category: Sunday Morning

Sometimes we look for promises and never find them because we are looking for theĀ  wrong delivery vehicle.

Sometimes we look for promises and never find them because we are looking for the wrong delivery vehicle. God uses many delivery vehicles:

  • Creation with His voice
  • Life through His breath
  • Covenant people through one man’s staff
  • Eternal life through a cross and empty tomb

God has a particular delivery vehicle for many of His promises to you and I today. God delivers His best for our lives through relationship with other people. Some examples:

  • Acts 1:4 Gathering THEM together
  • Acts 2:1 THEY were all TOGETHER
  • Acts 3:1 Now Peter AND John
  • Acts 9:7 The men who were WITH him stood speechless
  • Acts 16 Paul AND Timothy

The theme of “us” and “we” instead of “me” and “I” are throughout the Bible. Turn in your Bible to Romans 1:1. Hold your finger there while you turn to Hebrews 13:25. Holding these scriptures together represent approximately 1,300 verses. That is the same amount of verses that talk about the theme of relationship in the Bible. That’s a lot to ignore yet we do that when we ignore the idea of community and relationship.

This community the Bible speaks of is not primarily large groups but is small groups in living rooms.

  • Philemon 1:2
  • Acts 20:20
  • Acts 2:46
  • Acts 5:42
  • I Corinthians 16:19
  • Romans 16:5
  • Colossians 4:15
  • Acts 2:2

Meeting together as a congregation is very important. But if we ignore the importance being placed on small groups of believers, then we ignore one of the delivery vehicles that God uses to bring us more of His promises.

Three reasons why we skip on this opportunity:

1. We look for His promise in the wrong places. Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. Do not forsake assembling together because certain things are accomplished when we come together. A good example is the gift of comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 This gift of comfort given to us by God through the delivery vehicle of other people. This gift of comfort is given in smaller groups of believers where we can really invest in one another’s lives.

2. We are content with what we have. Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. It’s a lifelong process. But sometimes we become content with spending eternity with Jesus that we miss out on the second part of this verse. Verse 2bSo that… We miss out on the full will of God for our lives - real continual transformation that God most often times delivers when we are engaged in meaningful relationships with other believers. Don’t become content with what God has done in your life – He still has much further to go. God has promised more.

3. We’ve tried it and it didn’t work. James 1:4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Let endurance have its result. What is endurance? It’s submitting to the process. Maybe it didn’t work because the victory was in the process. Many times when we think it’s not working, God is working. He is always working and He wants us to trust the process.

God has a delivery for you and it looks like this tree – a tree with names that are printed on leaves showing us connected as we join together. It’s the gift of being known – the gift of having family – the gift of not having to go through things alone.

You can have these promised gifts in the right delivery vehicle. The vehicle is relationship with others and we have that at Freedom Fellowship through Home Ministries. Look for the right delivery vehicle to have community with other believers.

There might also be the same reasons the promise of salvation has not been received by you:

  1. You look for God’s promise in the wrong places.
  2. You are content with where you are.
  3. You’ve tried and it didn’t work.

But God has the gift of salvation for all eternity for you right now. Say this prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus,

I believe You are the Son of God. I believe that on that cross You took my guilt, my sin, and my shame and You died for it. You faced hell for me, so I wouldn't have to. And You rose again to give me a place in Heaven, a purpose on Earth, and a relationship with Your Father. Today, Lord Jesus, I turn from my sins to be born again. And now, God is my father, Jesus is my Savior, The Holy Spirit is my helper. And Heaven is my home. Amen.
