    Serve Others

    Serve Others

    Speaker: James Gallaher

    Series: John

    Category: Sunday Morning

Do you want to increase the blessing, your testimony, your witness? Serve. We reap the results of revenant living and blessing when we love one another, serve one another, and give preference to one another.

Read John 13:5-17  The Lord’s Supper

John tells about the meal: they were together, Judas is a traitor, John is Jesus’ favorite, Jesus washes their feet. Luke, however, gives us an important detail.

Luke 22:24  And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.

If we only look at John’s account, we could be left with the impression they were just enjoying a dinner, having a good time when Jesus got up. More likely, they hadn’t even noticed Jesus get up, arguing amongst themselves about who was the greatest disciple until the Master put His hands on the disciples feet.

v.12  So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?"

This is the place where our salvation begins. Here is what happens, once we have considered and accepted what He has done, strings begins to shake loose in our lives.

We are able to get our eyes off our past and we start looking toward our future. We let bitterness and anger towards people from our past build up, and we need to let go and replace it with freedom. He declares that those whom He has set free are free indeed.

This was not about feet. This was about the God of heaven, Creator, Redeemer, Savior, declaring there is not anything that He will not do for us.

v.18  I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’

The church is where we move from being a consumer to being a producer. No longer focused on what I can get, but what can I give. Serving one another, loving one another that we might become one with one another is what Jesus prayed for in the garden.

John 17:22-23  The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.

Jesus says our unity serves as the most influential and powerful testimonies of His life that the world will ever see. He goes on to say that it will be the most apparent way for the world to see His love for us.

The world takes notice when they see real love.

John 13:34-35  "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

The world will ask when they see it - how do I find this love? How do I get what you have?

John 13:17  If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

The result of revenant living is right there - love one another, serve one another, give preference to one another.

Do you want to increase the blessing? Serve.
Do you want to increase your testimony? Serve.
Do you want to increase your witness? Serve.

Serve your wife, husband, kids, neighbors, co-workers, waitresses, etc.
Whoever it is, serve; you will be blessed if you do.

    Romans 12:10  Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;
