The Shaken Life

The Shaken Life

Speaker: Dennis Gallaher

Series: Being Different

Category: Sunday Morning

There is a hunger that is arising across the land, not only in the church, but in the young people who are not as interested in a successful life as they are in a good life. In the Holy Spirit we can be successful and holy as He is holy.

There is a hunger that is arising across the land. It is a hunger that is arising not only in the church, but in the young people who are not as interested in a successful life as they are in a good life.

Opening Scripture:
Romans 7:18-19  For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.

Paul was being more honest than most and what he was saying was what many people are saying today:
- “I want to be a better parent than my own parents.”
- “I want to be more at peace than the way I grew up.”
- “I want to have a more successful marriage than my friends.”

We are echoing what Paul said; the willingness and desired for good is in me. The question is…is the doing of the good there?

Holiness and the Holy Spirit cannot be separated; they are one in the same. If you have a daily and ongoing relationship with the Holy Spirit, your life will increase in holiness.

2 Corinthians 3:16-18  But whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

The Lord here is the Holy Spirit; whenever He is Lord, there is freedom. We can draw close to Him with the veil removed, and we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus. We are being transformed into His very image as we move to brighter levels of glory.

In this passage, Paul is telling a story that uses the 10 Commandments.

Exodus 34:29  It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.

This is referring to what is known as the “shekinah glory of God.” The word “shekinah” is taken from a Hebrew word “skekinot” which literally means “he caused to dwell” and is where we get our word “shaken.” It’s a divine visitation of the presence of God. When that skekinot took up residence in Moses, the Holy Spirit “shook down” into Moses.

Paul says that when a person turns to Jesus, the veil is taken away and the glory of God, the Spirit of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit of God shine. Where that glory, the Spirit of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit is there is liberty and freedom.

Freedom not to do, but the freedom to be; the freedom to reflect the very nature of Jesus to this world. You are transformed from one degree of of skekinah to a greater degree of shekinah.

2 Corinthians 3:18  One degree of God’s glory to another.

The Father sent the Son to pay the debt that I could never pay. Then the Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit into the world to accomplish God’s purposes, to display the glory of God to the world. The Spirit is sending the church into the world to fulfill the mission of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

How does the Holy Spirit accomplishing this?

Revelation 21:3  And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them.

- By looking to Jesus
- By opening the door to the Holy Spirit, not jus to dwell, but to overflow, to shekinah - to shake down and show faith in my life
- To live holy because the Holy One dwell inside

Ephesians 5:18  And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.

Do you hunger for “the good life,” a hunger to have a life that is a cut above the normal?
Good news! God, the Creator, wants the same for you.

He has the plan, the way for you to accomplish your dream.

Open your heart and let Him take over. The Holy Spirit will “settle down” and inhabit your life. And as you walk and talk with Him, He will tell you that your are His own.
